To do this you will need a natural fabric, 100% cotton, linen, silk or wool. You will also need a large pot and turmeric. I only used 2 teaspoons (approx. 50 grams) for 1.2 meters (225 grams). This gave me a very pale yellow. Use more turmeric for a darker color.
First you must soak your fabric thoroughly. Keep it fully submerged for at least 30 minutes.
Next, mix the turmeric with a small amount of water making
sure there is no lumps. This is just to helps make the color even.
Pour the turmeric water into the pot of boiling water. Turn the temperature down a tad before putting the fabric in.
Make sure the fabric is fully submerged in the pot to ensure
an even dye. Stir the fabric constantly to make sure every part of the fabric
is dyed evenly.
I poured my pot into my bath tub. It did not stain my tub,
but I was still swift about the cleanup. The fabric will be too hot to touch so
use a wooden spoon or tongs. Rinse the fabric until it runs clean.
Now you will need to let it dry. I left mine over night before ironing and cutting the pattern out.
